Hello my name is Ali Turner and I am a senior public relations student at Kent State University in Ohio.   I created this blog through a course in Online PR. I have decided to focus my blog on the ethics of public relations. As the Web continues to rapidly expand, more and more ethical dilemmas will arise for PR professionals. This blog is intended to deal with traditional and non-traditional ethical issues in public relations. I hope this blog will reach students and professionals alike. For more information about me, read below or just ask.

I love Northeast Ohio and unlike most of my college peers, I want to live here after my graduation in August. I love to knit and play with my nieces – Ava and Lexi. I’m  known as “Nini” at home because “Auntie Ali” is just too hard to say sometimes. The only trophy I’ve ever won is for the Rooster Crowing Contest at the Canfield Fair and yes, you read that right – Rooster Crowing. If you’re really interested in the sport, let me know and I’ll explain further. Being a public relations student has cured my shyness and has really been a wonderful experience for me. I look forward to graduating in August and diving head first into the field.

    Hey Ali,

Thanks for visiting my blog. Like you, I’m just starting out with this blog thing. I too am interested in the ethics of public relations because it falls into compromise a lot. I worked for a PR agency for 3 months and found the atmosphere to be very cut-throat and very unethical.

The idea for “Truth in PR” came from that experience. I graduated in 2006 with a B.A. in Communication/public relations emphasis and have noticed, for the majority, college students are looking at blogs. The trend is kind of catching on in public relations agencies and corps., but not much.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance in pointing you to resources for your blogging efforts.

    Sincerely,

    Positive O

    Positive O,

Thanks so much for commenting on my blog. It’s really exciting to me to see the blogging world in action. I figured my sister would be the only one to read this thing!

I agree with you that college students are looking more to blogs for information, which could be good or bad. This blog was started as a result of my Online PR class. We are doing all kinds of things with the Web and social media. Blogs can simply not be ignored any longer.

Thank you for your generous offer. I’m always looking for advice from those out in the field. Hope to hear from you again. Stay warm in Minnesota!

Good luck. Ethics how that word gets twisted depending on whose mouth it comes out of. Enjoy your pursuits. Remember character is something that only obedience to God’s Word can give you. You can try to develop it on your own, but sooner or later you will stumble.
